Shifting Left: Why “Global from the Start” Is the New Competitive Edge

At Paladini Digital Solutions, we are inspired by thought leaders who challenge conventional wisdom and push organizations to rethink how they operate in a globalized, digital world. One such voice is José Palomares, whose recent article “Goodbye, Localization. Hello, Global Experiences” delivers a powerful message: the age of treating localization as a finishing touch is over.

All credit for the ideas in his article belongs to Jose, and what follows is our reflection on his key insights and how they connect to Paladini Digital Solutions mission.

Palomares argues that localization, as it has traditionally been practiced, is no longer enough. For decades, businesses built products for a “home market” first, then added translations or regional tweaks at the very end of the process. This reactive mindset may have worked in a slower, less connected world. But today’s global customers expect much more: seamless, culturally intelligent experiences that feel natural, relevant, and trustworthy from day one.

To achieve this, companies need a shift-left approach, that is, embracing a Global Product Design-First approach by embedding cultural relevances into the earliest stages of product design. It’s not about adapting after the fact; it’s about building global for a global audience from the ground up. And, as Palomares puts it, the focus must shift from process execution to measurable impact across markets.

One of the most important enablers of this transformation is stakeholder management. Palomares stresses that aligning business leaders, product teams, regional offices, and support functions is not optional. Without early buy-in, projects risk becoming fragmented, leading to inconsistent experiences and missed opportunities. Effective stakeholder management ensures that a measurable global experience design first focus is championed across the organization, not just bolted on at the end.

Without it, transformation risks becoming guesswork. With it, organizations can design global experiences that are not only culturally relevant but also evidence-based and continuously optimized.

At Paladini Digital Solutions, we strongly echo this point, but we also believe transformation requires a holistic framework. Building on the European Union’s Industry 5.0 principles, we advocate for what we call the People, Process, Technology and Data! model.

  • People are at the center of any transformation. From employees to end users, human needs and cultural contexts must remain the guiding compass.
  • Process provides the structure that enables scalability and consistency. Good processes eliminate silos and create a shared language across functions.
  • Technology delivers the tools (AI, automation, APIs, and platforms) that make transformation possible at speed and scale.
  • And critically, Data! is the fourth pillar we add. In a shift-left approach, data is the connective tissue that empowers smarter decisions early in the cycle. From market insights to user behavior analytics, data enables companies to anticipate needs, personalize experiences, and measure success in real time.

This addition of Data! is key. Without it, transformation risks becoming guesswork. With it, organizations can design global experiences that are not only culturally relevant but also evidence-based and continuously optimized. Data allows teams to validate assumptions early, reduce waste, and prove ROI to stakeholders, a game-changer when scaling across regions.

The bottom line: José Palomares’s article is a wake-up call for businesses still treating globalization as an afterthought. The future belongs to organizations that embrace shift-left global product design-first approach, prioritize stakeholder alignment, and ground their transformations in a People, Process, Technology and Data! framework.

At Paladini Digital Solutions, our mission is to partner with companies ready to make this leap. We help organizations weave global product design, digital transformation, and UX into the very DNA of their processes — always keeping people at the center, and using data to drive every decision.
